Night traffic ban: Karnataka writes to Centre

Sunday, November 20, 2011: Karnataka government today wrote to the Ministry of Environment & Forests in connection with the Kerala’s proposal for allowing vehicular traffic on the convoy basis in the Wayanad- Mysore National Highway.
Karanataka informed the Centre that the proposal put forward by Kerala was impracticable and clarified that they were not ready to hold further discussions with Kerala.
Karanataka’s had earlier decided to block night traffic on the Kozhikode- Kollegal road on NH 212 and the Ootty- Mysore Road on NH 67(through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve).
Kerala had asked Karnataka to allow vehicular traffic on convoy basis till another alternative was suggested. Karnataka rejected this proposal by informing that, by allowing traffic on the convoy basis would put the life of the wild animals in jeopardy.
Karanataka had imposed a ban on the night traffic to protect wildlife from the disturbances created by the large number of vehicles that hurtle down the forest roads during night.
