Mullaperiyar: Director Ranjit to boycott film awards nite

Monday, 28 November 2011: Well-known Malayalam film director Ranjit today said he and two of his colleagues will stay away from the Kerala ‘Film Awards’ nite here later in the evening in protest against the Centre’s ”apathy” to resolve contentious Mullapperiyar dam issue.
Talking to newspersons here, he said ”my mind does not allow me to be part of the colourful event when thousands of people were living in fear” in Kerala’s three districts surrounding the dam, water level of which was rising gradually and which was in tremor prone area.
He said ”Bagging an award is a honour for me and the film as well. I will certainly receive it at some other venues, including the office of Kerala Chalachitra Academy,” the organisers of the event, he said.
Director Joy Mathew and ghazal singer Shabaz Aman, who were also present in the press meet, would also stay away from the function, he added.
