Piravom: UDF confirms Anoop Jacob’s candidature

Monday, November 21, 2011: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has today confirmed the candidature of Anoop Jacob, son of late Food and Civil Supplies Minister T M Jacob for Piravom Assembly by-poll.
Speaking to the mediapersons at a press meet held here on Monday, UDF convener PP Thankachan opined that the decision regarding this was taken unanimously in the party. The UDF will worth together for Anoop’s victory at Piravom, he added.
Thankachan also ruled out the differences in opinion between the Jacob faction and UDF leadership regarding the candidature.
Anoop, who is in his early 30s, is currently the state president of the Youth Front (Jacob) and had been a prominent leader of the students’ and youth wing of the party for more than a decade.
Earlier, the Jacobite Church also openly demanded that a member of the Jacob family should be the Minister. It also demanded that any family member of the former Minister should contest the Piravom seat, which has fallen vacant due to the sudden demise of Jacob.
The party believes that with Anoop contesting the bypoll as a minister and with the sympathy wave, the party would manage to win the seat.
