Justice K T Thomas protected state’s interests, says Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Justice K T Thomas, a member of the Mullaperiyar empowered committee, protected the interests of the state, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Briefing reporters after the weekly cabinet briefing, he said the report is in favour of the state.

The state wants a new dam in Mullaperiyar as the present one is not safe. The panel has given green signal for a new dam with conditions. The state does not agree with the directive on the water level being raised to 142 ft. Justice K T Thomas is not a representative of the state and the latter will demand for a new dam in the court. Thomas has asserted state’s stance in the dissenting note. Thomas had recorded in the note that the water level should not be raised to more than 136 ft. But he has not been able to explain about the safety of the dam.

The distillery in Kozhikode is being shifted to Palakkad following the decision of the court. Pinarayi Vijayan owes an explanation to his co-activists and allied parties of the LDF in connection with the murder of T P Chandrasekharan.
