Police stations to have anti-narcotic squads

ALAPPUAHA: Anti-narcotic committees will be constituted under all police stations in the district to curb the sales and use of narcotic drugs.

A meeting led by Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal took a decision in this regard on Monday. The committee will comprise representatives of the panchayats, residential associations and voluntary organisations.
The meeting also decided to initiate steps to stop the sale of pan masala at shops adjacent to schools. The activities of the ‘vimukti’ will be enhanced to prevent people from using drugs. The NRHM will lead the campaign in the district.
A control room was opened at the Collectorate for the public to register complaints in connection with the use and sale of drugs. People can register complaints over the phone on 0477-2238630.
T M Thomas Isaac MLA, Collector V Ratheesan, municipal chairperson Mercy Diana Macedo,Ernakulam Range DIG K Padmakumar, SP K G James and ADM K P Thambi also took part in the meeting.
