Public park project stuck in the pipeline

TRIPUNITHURA: The difference of opinion over the land acquisition between the Municipality and the Palace Administrative Board has led to the delay in implementing the prestigious public park project here.
The depute is over the land where RLV College of Music and Fine Arts was earlier situated. The Municipality had already earmarked `3.20 crore for the project. Tripunithura Municipal Chairman R Venugopal said that the Municipality had decided to set up a public park on the 84 cents of land under the jurisdiction of the Palace Administrative Board. “The board has been asking a price for the proposed land which is unaffordable for the Municipality,” R Venugopal said. However, he said that a meeting to discuss the issue has been convened by District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth next week.
Venugopal said that the Municipality would not give up the project even if they fail to come to a consensus about the land acquisition.
“We would look for another piece of land. A public park at Tripunithura is a much awaited dream of the people here. The Municipality is also looking forward to other options,” he said. Meanwhile, the palace board officials said that they have not been officially informed about the land for the proposed park. “The Municipality should give us a decent amount for our land. Any decision to hand over the land to the Municipality will be taken only after the members of the board meet to discuss it,” the officials said.
