SC permits Kerala, TN to get copies of report on Mullaperiyar dam

Friday, May 04, 2012: The Supreme Court today permitted Kerala and Tamil Nadu to get copies of the report submitted by the empowered committee on the Mullaperiyar Dam row.
A five-judge constitution Bench of the court headed by Justice D K Jain, while permitting the two warring states to get copies of the report in a sealed cover, posted the matter for further hearing to July 23.
Senior advocate Harih Salve appeared for Kerala in the Court.
The Empowered Committee, headed by the former Chief Justice of India A.S. Anand, had submitted the eight-chapter report to the Supreme Court on April 25.
The committee was set up in February 2010 during the course of arguments on Tamil Nadu’s suit questioning the law enacted by Kerala to restrict the water level in the dam to 136 ft.

Yes Dam is safe. But I believe new dam could be the long term solution. New dam should be jointly built and controlled by both the states. :) I think if Kerala proposes this idea TN would gladly accept it I think..
