Teenagers hurt in blast

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reminiscent of the blood-soaked past that once haunted coastal areas from Perumathura ro Beemapally, a crude explosive material went off near Thumba, injuring two teenagers who were involved in its manufacture. The incident occurred in an uninhabited plot at the back side of the FCI godown at Vilayikonam, near Kazhakkoottam, late on Wednesday. Two youths, Nisam,17, and Anish, 19, who were making ‘eeru padakkam’ in the lonely area under the cover of darkness were injured in their hands. Nisam is reported to have lost two fingers in the blast.
Hearing the explosive sound, the neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital. It is still unclear whether the crude explosive materials were meant for any violence.
Medical College CI A Pramod Kumar said that the youths had not been indicted in any criminal cases. ”But from the leads we collected, it can be assumed that they were trying to enter the crime world. To tell more, the investigation should proceeded further,” he said. The youths were later arrested.
Woman Held
Valiyathura police on Thursday arrested a woman in connection with explosion that took place at the house of one Anil Kumar of Valiyathura the other day.
Rekha, wife of Anil Kumar, was arrested by the police for illegally storing explosives. Her husband Anil Kumar is absconding.
The blast occurred on Wednesday when the gun powder Anil Kumar had discretely stored in the cupboard went off owing to pressure variation.
