THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has a number of fans associations. Superstar Mohanlal to ‘alien star’ Santhosh Pandit have fan clubs. However, the city has a unique fans club who think they are adoring a real hero.
Admirers of city-based snake-catcher Vava Suresh have recently formed a fans club. One or two locations in the city even have the posters of All-Kerala Vava Suresh Fans Club featuring posters of Vava Suresh.
Krishnakumar, secretary of Fans Club, told City Express that the club has around 30 members. “Vava Suresh is from the nearby Cheruvakkal. Most of us know him personally. We have great respect for him. When people are killing snakes he is doing a great service,” he said.
Just like other fans clubs which are doing a number of social service activities, Suresh’s fans too have a number of plans.
“We are planning to conduct awareness classes against killing of snakes. Suresh will take classes. Camps will be held at Sreekaryam. We also have plans to donate blood. Since all of us are busy with our daily chores, we could not do anything yet,” Krishnakumar, an auto-driver, said.
At first Vava Suresh was against the idea of setting up a fans club. Finally he succumbed to the friendly coercion of the boys. “He was reluctant. Finally he gave the nod,” said Krishnakumar.
Vava Suresh had rescued and conserved nearly 5,000 straying snakes.
His phone number - 9387974441 - is one of the most sought-after number at the emergency control room. Suresh has survived as many as 255 snakebites, six of which were critical.
