Intelligence widens net to nab PFI activist

The state Intelligence has sought the assistance of the intelligence wings of other states for tracking down a Kozhikode native who participated in a Popular Front of India (PFI) camp at Ramanathapuram near Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu last month. The state Intelligence on the basis of information given by the Tamil Nadu Intelligence had identified the person but he has been absconding after the camp.

The Intelligence wing has been searching for the person as part of the inquiry about the motive behind the camp. Tamil Nadu intelligence had informed that the participants in the camp were given training in leadership and physical exercises.

“He is suspected to have gone underground after the Tamil Nadu police booked 30 activists from the camp,” an Intelligence official said.

The TN police booked 30 PFI workers who participated in the camp on June 25. Later, they were released on bail. The agencies in TN alerted the state Special Branch after they found that cadre from Assam, Bihar and Kerala also took part in the camp. PFI had dismissed any ulterior motive behind it and said that the camp was aimed at giving lessons in physical exercises and spirituality.
