Daylight robbery in Kerala capital

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a daylight robbery here, four youths came on two bikes and robbed Rs 35 lakh from a person who came out of a bank after withdrawing money, police said.

The youths, all of them wearing helmets, pushed the man to the ground and snatched the bag containing the money before speeding away.

The police have arrested all the four persons. They are identified as Rakesh (38), Aneesh (25), Malik Singh (37) and Chandran (35).  They are natives of West Bengal and Jharkhand. They are being questioned.

Yesurajan, president of the Fish Workers Co-operative Society at Vizhinjam, had withdrawn the money from the branch of Canara Bank at Ayurveda college junction. The amount was meant for distribution to fish workers at an interest-free loan mela scheduled to be conducted at Vizhinjam on Sunday.

Yesurajan told the police that the bikes bore Uttar Pradesh registration numbers.
