Deaths in Attappady: People don’t eat properly, says Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an interview to the Outlook Magazine, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the reason for infant deaths in Attappady is that the people here don’t eat properly. This statement has raged a controversy in the state.

When asked that babies are still dying even after a special package was permitted for Attappady, Chandy said that he had visited the place along with higher officials of the centre and state governments in June. A retired IAS officer S Subbayya was entrusted to monitor the situation there.  It is an issue which cannot be solved in a day and another thing is that the tribals here don’t eat properly. Besides rice and green gram, ragi is also given along with free ration, he said.
