Jaya’s stand not favourable for Kerala, says Chandy
EW DELHI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s stand on the Mullaperiyar issue is not favourable for the state, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Jayalalithaa is not taking the issue seriously. Talking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Chandy said the state is in good terms with Tamil Nadu.
Chandy said, “The state’s approach is safety for Kerala and water for Tamil Nadu. Even if a new dam is constructed, the water given for Tamil Nadu will remain the same. Hope to solve the issue amicably.”
Chandy said that he had informed the Prime Minister that a new dam should be constructed in Mullaperiyar and should immediately lower the storage level of water to 120 feet. The Prime Minister had entrusted Union Cabinet Minister of Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal and promised to solve the issue through talks.
