Cash stolen from Kalikavu Devi temple

KURAVILANGADU: A massive robbery came to light in the age- old Kalikkavu Devi temple near here on Thursday. The robbers who broke open the main door of the Srekovil destroyed four hundis and oil counters and stole cash from them. The examination is going on to find out whether more valuable things are missing from the temple.

The robbery is presumed to have happened Wednesday late night. It was the temple priest who first noticed the broken hundis, when he opened the Sreekovil of the temple for Palliyunarthal. The axe used to broke open the hundis was recovered from a nearby spot.

Police assumption is that a professional team of robbers was behind the robbery.

The temple which stands along Ettumanoor-Kuravilangadu route near MC road comes under Devaswom board.

The gravity of the theft is yet to be ascertained. However, the box containing temple ornaments didn’t come to the notice of the robbers. Four hundis kept in the store room were taken out and hacked open.

An expert team under Kuravilangadu SI Mohan Das is conducting the search for more clues about the robbers.
