KOTTAYAM: Move is on in Kerala Congress to expel renegade former chief whip P C George from the party after disqualifying him.
Kerala Congress stand is that George is indulging in anti-party activities and it will come under the purview of anti-defection law. The plan is to give a complaint to the Speaker in this regard.
A final decision will be taken at the Kerala Congress Committee meeting to be held on Sunday.
Kerala Congress disapproves of George’s decision to field a candidate under Anti-corruption democratic front led by him when UDF has its own candidate in Aruvikkara. This is viewed by the party as a serious breach of party discipline.
“The current situation is similar to the one that existed in 1989 when R Balakrishna Pillai was disqualified,” Kerala Congress leader Antony Raju said. Pillai was disqualified for supporting the candidate who contested against P J Joseph in Moovattupuzha even when Pillai was part of the Joseph group. Pillai was disqualified by the then Speaker Varkala Rashakrishnan as requested by the Joseph group.
The same step may be taken in George’s case.
Meanwhile, P C George asserted that he could be removed from the party only if he breached party whip. He said the rule at the time of Pilla’s ouster had changed.
