THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that payments due to farmers in connection with paddy procurement will be paid before June 20.
The chief minister informed this during his discussion with Kuttanad development committee.
Kutanad Development Committee Executive Director Fr Thomas Peeliyanickal said that farmers withdrew their strike following the chief minister’s assurance. The government owes Rs 353 crore to farmers towards the paddy procured during April-May months. The dues to be paid to Alappuzha farmers itself is Rs 147 crore. Out of that Rs 11crore will have to be distributed among Kuttanad farmers owning significant paddy fields.
