KOLENCHERY: The heads of Jacobite and Orthodox factions of the Malankara Church have begun fasting on Sunday.
The Orthodox faction under the leadership of His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II started fasting 200 metres away from Kolenchery St. Peter's & St. Paul's Church (where curfew has been prevailing) around 4 pm. The Jacobite faction under Catholicos Baselios Thomas I began their fast at 6 pm near the shrine at Kolenchery Junction.
The Jacobite faction on Saturday had started protest marches demanding to maintain status quo at the Kolenchery St. Peter's & St. Paul's Church, after a court order which went in favour of Orhodox faction.
Meantime, the district collector Sheik Pareeth has informed that a discussion to tranquil the situation would be held at Ernakulam Guest House at 10 in the morning.
