High Court admits petition on petrol price

Wednesday, October 05, 2011: The Kerala High Court admitted a petition seeking a direction to the Centre to roll back the deregulation of petroleum product prices and impose control so that the prices were not increased arbitrarily.
Admitting the petition by former MP P C Thomas, a Division Bench comprising justices C N Ramachandran Nair and T S Gopinathan issued notice to the Central government, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Reliance Industries.According to Thomas, the government had concealed the fact that India was producing petroleum products exceeding 30 per cent of actual need and exporting the excess.
He further alleged that the domestic refineries can supply petroleum products to meet the requirements of the country. The case will be considered after two weeks.
