VS demands detailed probe into Pillai’s phone controversy

Saturday, October 01, 2011: Opposition leader and CPM veteran VS Achuthanandhan on Saturday opined that the cyber cell should conduct an investigation into the KC (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai controversial telephonic talk.
Speaking to the reporters here, CPM leader added that the complete call history of Balakrishna Pillai’s mobile should be traced and enquired. The probe being conducted by the welfare officer was unsatisfactory.
The Welfare Officer, probing the case, is a well wisher of R Balakrishna Pillai, who had helped him secure a job, VS said. The investigation has been handed over to him to fool the common people.
Pillai, who was shifted to the hospital for treatment a few days ago, landed in trouble after he spoke to a TV reporter on Thursday about the attack on a teacher. Opposition LDF immediately seized the issue alleging that use of phone by Pillai involved violation of jail rules.
Pillai had spoken to the reporter on condition that he would not be quoted as he was not supposed to speak to the media over phone since he had been undergoing imprisonment. The channel, however, aired the telephonic talk.
Pillai was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Supreme Court in February last in a corruption case dating to the 1980s when he was Electricity Minister in the Congress-led UDF government.
