Palm Sunday observed with fervour

Sunday, April 01, 2012: Palm Sunday, which marks the final Sunday of Lent and the commencement of the ‘holy week’ leading to Easter, was observed by Christians on April 1.
Palm Sunday symbolises the triumphant arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem for the festival of Passover when crowds greeted him waving palm fronds.The faithful after gathering at churches on Sunday morning, collected palm fronds blessed by the priest and went in a procession led by the chief celebrant of the holy mass of the respective churches.
They believe that keeping the palm leaves they received from the church at their home, work place or business places till the next Palm Sunday will bring them good luck in the year ahead. Hundreds of persons participated in processions. The Holy Week observation ends with believers celebrating the resurrection of Christ on Easter day.
