Chandy pulls up cops for Shukoor murder

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has squarely blamed the police for the murder of Muslim Students Front leader Abdul Shukoor. “Shukoor was murdered by a gang in a two-hour-long operation. Even then the police failed to prevent it. Such lapses should not occur,” he said at a conference of senior police officers here.
   He praised police efforts in nabbing the accused.
Urging the police to be alert against extremism, he said: “Although Kerala has been a target of extremist organisations over the past many years, the state has so far prevented them from  establishing a base here. The police should continue to be alert against extremism and communal tensions.”  He directed the police to take strict action against quotation gangs, crime against women and financial fraud cases.
The meeting also decided to start an exclusive Facebook account to help trace missing persons.
