Engineers of Kochi Metro Rail to be trained

KOCHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Limited will celebrate its foundation day on Thursday. In connection with the occasion, the principal adviser of DMRC E Sreedharan addressed the newly-recruited young civil engineers of the Kochi Metro Rail project at a meeting held here on Wednesday. He told them about the corporate culture, orientation style and the achievements of DMRC.
The newly recruited six assistant engineers and 17 junior engineers will be given training for a period of one month at  the training institute of DMRC in New Delhi before the construction of the Kochi Metro Rail begins. As the Metro Rail construction is a complex job, Sreedharan told the trainees to utilise their time judiciously at the institute.
“Delhi Metro Rail is a trendsetter in terms of indigenous technology and the successful implementation of the project proved that a world-class public transport system can be executed in a developing country like India, ahead of schedule and within a limited budget,” Sreedharan, who is also the former chief of DMRC said.
He said that based on the success of the Delhi Metro Rail, many urban cities had shown keen interest in executing Metro Rail project. In Bengaluru, the first phase of the Metro has been commissioned. At present, DMRC is carrying out the preparation of a detailed project reports (DPR) for Kozhikode Mono Rail project and High Speed Rail Line (HSRL) between Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore.
It is also consultant for many Metro Rail projects and is executing the Jaipur and Kochi Metro Rail projects. DMRC project director P Sriram and other senior officials of DMRC also attended the meeting.
