Film producer Vindhyan passes away


KOCHI: Renowned film producer Vindhyan passed away here at PVS Hospital in Ernakulam on Saturday. He was 61. His body will be cremated on Sunday at his ancestral house at Thriprayar in Thrissur at around 2 pm.

Shalini Ente Kootukari, Ore kadal, Vadakku Nokki Yenthram, Vasanthiyum Lekshmiyum Pinne Njanum, Ayal Katha Ezhuthukayanu, Electra, Mullavalliyum Thenmavum, Oduvil Kittiya Vartha, Football and Arike are notable films produced by Vindhyan.

He has been under treatment for liver disease for the last two years.

He produced his first film Shalini Ente Kootukari in 1983 at the age of 19. The screenplay of this film was written by Padmarajan.

He was a student of the first batch at School of Drama in Thrissur. Director Shyama Prasad, V.K. Prakash, Murali Menon and Sandhya Rajendran were along with Vindhyan there. He had also donned a prominent role in Off Season, a film in the anthology, Kerala Cafe. The last film produced by him was Arike.

Vindhyan is the son of late N.U. Balan and Sreemathi. His wife Sona is an employee with BSNL. She is a native of Ernakulam. They have two children—Puthuma (Administrator at a private hospital in Cherthala) and Novel (student at Mumbai Film Institute). Dinan, Beena, Abhaya and Meera are Vindhyan’s siblings.
