'Government trying to help aided schools'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala School Teachers’ Association (KSTA) has alleged that the State Government is trying to delay the announcement of the rehabilitation package for teachers who lost their jobs as part of a ploy to give more concessions to aided school managements.
The allegation came against the backdrop of the announcement of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb to postpone the announcement of the final version of rehabilitation package scheduled for Teachers Day on Monday. The Minister said that the government needed two more weeks for preparing the final draft. KSTA general secretary M Shajahan said in a statement here on Sunday  that the package had safe guarded the interests of the aided school managements. The managers have not agreed to the recommendation of seeking prior government sanction for making fresh appointments. This meant that the managers would have the opportunity to make appointments to over 5,000 teaching posts following the introduction of teacher-pupil ratio of 1:30,he alleged.
