Friday, September 30, 2011: A team of Revenue officials assisted by
police personnel carried out a pre-dawn raid near Chembarathivila,
Vazhuthoor and Veluthottam areas following complaints that illegal sand
mining have been taking place here.
After seeing the police the sand smugglers fled the spot. As many as
15 boats used for illegal sand mining and sand were seized by the
officials. The boats were later destroyed using a JCB.
The operation, which started at 8 a.m lasted till night and was led
by Neyyattinkara DySP P Gopakumaran Nair and other officials of the
district administration were present.
