Friday, September 30, 2011: The police team investigating the case
relating to the mysterious death of a middle-aged nun (Mary Ancy) in
Poonkulam Holy spirit convent, have submitted a report on probe progress
in the Kerala High Court on Friday.
The report submitted by the investigating officer Fort Assistant
commissioner Radhakrishnan Nair indicates that there were struggle marks
in the corpse and Mary Ancy had died due drowning.
The police had also interrogated the two men identified as Yuijn (a
policeman) and Vijayan (local resident), who were said to have left the
convent compound early morning on August 17. More than 60 people have
been questioned so far in connection with the incident.
The body was found in the water pit by the sisters this morning. The
nun went missing from her room where she had gone to sleep last night
after prayers.
Earlier report:-
Meanwhile the State Human Right’s Commission (SHRC) have interrogated
the convent staff in connection with the case. The Commission’s
investigating team reached the convent on Saturday and collected
evidence. Speaking to the reporters here, SHRC acting chairman K.E
Gangadharan expressed suspicion over the nun’s death.
The investigation is being conducted based on a complaint handed to
the commission by human rights activist Jomon Puthenpurackal. He had
criticised the police team for arriving at a conclusion even without
conducting a proper investigation into the death.
Terming the police inference strange, he pointed out that there had
been no way Sister Ancy could have lifted the immensely heavy concrete
slabs and committed suicide given the fact that it required more than
one person to remove the slab.
The State Women’s commission chairperson Justice D Sreedevi and the
panel investigating officers had earlier interrogated the staff and
collected evidence in connection with the case.
The police team investigating the mysterious death of Sister Mary
Ancy interrogated her family members in Tiruvalla in connection with the
case earlier. The probe team also found out that the nun was deeply
depressed owing to an allergic skin disease.
Police said that based on the initial forensic report and post-mortem
report, the police team had reached the conclusion that it was a case
of suicide. Meanwhile family members of Ancy have raised suspicion over
her mysterious death and have demanded a detailed probe into the case.
