CPI state secretary CK Chandrappan passes away



Thursday, March 22, 2012: CPI state secretary CK Chandrappan (76), who was admitted to a private hospital here due to health related ailments, has passed away on Thursday.
He was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment for the same. He was admitted at the hospital on Monday when his condition worsened. Chandrappan was shifted to the intensive care unit on Wednesday night and was put on ventilator support.
Chandrappan who has taken a tough stand against the CPM has been unanimously re-elected as the secretary of the Kerala CPI at the end of the State conference of the party on February 11, 2012. he was also actively involved in the Piravom election campaign.
He was a member of the Lok Sabha of India representing the Thrissur (Lok Sabha constituency) of Kerala from 1977 to 1980 and from 2004 to 2010. Chandrappan served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala from 1991 to 1996 representing the Chertala Assembly Constituency.
His father, C.K. Kumara Panikker, was a famous leader of CPI and was known as Vayalar Stalin. Chandrappan is married to Bulu Roy Chodhary, a political activist from West Bengal.
Chandrappan, the former CPI MP from Trichur, was adjudged the top performer by the National Social Watch, an NGO. However he could not be re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. C K Chandrappan is currently the state leader of CPI and national president of KISAN SABHA. he was elected to parliament many times from kerala, he was also elected to kerala assembly from Cherthala. and Ex. national president of AIYF.
