Woman held with gold at Kochi Airport


KOCHI: A woman was detained by Customs officials at Nedumbassery airport for carrying 426 grams of gold on her body. According to the officials, the woman, identified as Bincy Mathew, was disguised in a purdah, when they detained her.
The officials grew suspicious as the woman was a Christian and yet was wearing a purdah.
On checking, they discovered that she was wearing gold worth `12.25 lakh.
Bincy had arrived from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on a Saudi Airlines flight on Thursday with her husband and two children when she was detained.
Customs Deputy Commissioner C Madhavan and Nasser Khan, along with five other superintendents, detained her.
