THALIPPARAMBU: SI and his team including a woman police officer who went to pick up an accused in a case were rounded up and bashed up by the locals and relatives of the accused on Friday.
The SI and three police officers have been admitted to a government Taluk hospital. Thalipparambu SI K J Binoy (40) got his hands and legs injured in the melee. The incident happened at 7:10 in the morning.
Woman police officer P Sheena (27) and policeman AP John (48) were kicked in their chest and both have sought medical care. Policemen T P Raghavan, M E George, P Raveendran, M G Chandran and K Muhammed Ali also got injured.
CPM man Karakkadan Babu was attacked by one Muhammed Sherif and his gang. The police team had gone to arrest Sheriff. Though Sheriff was caught after a chase, about 30 people crowded around the police team and manhandled them.
