Reason for delay in bar scam case probe is Biju Ramesh, Govt tells court

KOCHI: The government has informed the high court that Bar association working president Biju Ramesh’s steps have delayed the investigation procedures in the bar bribery scam. Ramesh, who had raised allegations against Mani, has been coming out with new evidence every now and then.

The government made this submission in response to a petition filed by former MLA A V Thamarakshan that sought handing over of the bar bribery case to the CBI.

“In connection with the case, ten witnesses have been questioned till date. No one among them has given statements against Mani. But, Biju Ramesh releasing audios as evidence is resulting in prolonging the case. The CD handed over to the Vigilance has edited version of the controversial talks.  So its credibility has to be checked and for that it has to be to forensic lab,” AG explained in the court, pleading that more time should be allotted for completing the probe.

The bench headed by acting judge Ashok Bhushan will pronounce the order in the case on Wednesday.
