Murder of headmaster: James Mathew to be arrested

KANNUR: James Mathew MLA is likely to be arrested soon in connection with the suicide of E P Shashidharan, the headmaster of Thalipparambu Tagore Vidya Niketan. It is also heard that Mathew may surrender as there is no other option for him after the Thalassery district session’s court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.  He may take a decision after holding talks with the party leadership. His arrest may come under attack amongst representatives in the CPM meet.

Allegation of corruption in the DELCO land deal, a cooperative organization of the CPM, was raised earlier.

A case has been registered accusing Mathew as the second accused in the suicide case. Judge V Shercy rejected his bail plea after approving prosecution’s argument that as a political leader he may try to influence the witnesses.

Shashidharan was found dead in a lodge in Kasargod on December 15. The suicide note had mentioned the MLA’s name.

M V Shaji, another teacher of the school is the second accused in the case. His anticipatory bail plea will be considered on January 19. The report of the police cited that pressure from the first and second accused led the headmaster to commit suicide.
