Kerala to lose 12 crore unit power when water level is raised

KOCHI: By raising the water level of Mullaperiyar, Kerala will lose 12 crore unit current. Every year, 8.24 MCM excess water from Mullaperiyar flows to Idukki dam.

This flow will come to a halt if the water level is raised from 136 feet to 142 feet. This, according to the Electricity Board, will inflict a loss of Rs 36 crore to Kerala.

At 136-feet water level, the dam is able to store11.210 TMC, and by raising that level to 142 feet, it will be 12.118 feet.
