KOCHI: Kerala High court has asked why KRTC is not shutting down, if it is running at a loss. The court also questioned the logistics behind hiking the minimum bus fare from Rs 7 to Rs 10.
The questions were thrown up by Justice K Surendran while considering a petition filed by Ernakulam-based Advocate Basil Aippettu against the rise in bus fare.
If the government finds it difficult to run the KSRTC, it should be handed over to a competent management. If there is any flaw in the bus fare hike, it should be examined by Transport Secretary, the court said and allotted two months’ time for this.
When the government argued in the court that it had to go for a hike since the KSRTC had been running in loss, the court retorted that the story about its loss was an open secret.
