THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leela Menon, noted journalist and editor of Janmabhoomi has been selected for the K Vijayaraghavan Memorial Award for outstanding journalism.
The award is instituted by the Vijayaraghavan Memorial Committee to commemorate the former Kerala Kaumudi associate editor. The award given to senior journalists carries a cash prize of Rs 10,001, citation and plaque.
The award will be presented to Leela Menon in the first week of June at the Press Club, said panel president N Ramachandran and secretary K G Parameswaran Nair in a release.
Leela Menon, the first woman reporter from Kerala, started her career as a reporter in Indian Express. She has worked as a reporter in Delhi, Kochi and Kottayam.
She exposed the Thankamani incident and her reports on Aruvakkode potter women’s woes were sensational. She has written her biography titled Nilaykkatha Symphony. Her role in attracting women to the field of journalism is laudable.
