Violence continues in Kannur; bomb hurled in Panoor

KANNUR: There has been no let-up in the CPM-RSS clash that took place in Kannur in the aftermath of the announcement of election result. A bomb-throwing incident was reported from Panoor Pathayakkunnu town at 4 am on Saturday. Agitators threw a locally made crude bomb on the road and it exploded with a high decibel sound.

The police soon reached the spot and collected burnt out particles of bombs and a few unexploded bombs. The bomb disposal/dog squads were called in. The police also started search for more bombs.

Kathiroor police have arrested a few suspects in the bomb-throwing incidents. To protest against the RSS violence, the CPM had called a 48 hour hartal, which will continue till 6pm today.

Though Vyapari Vyavasai Ekopana Samithi has rejected the call for bandh, CPM activists under the leadership of A Asokan is all set to prevent merchants from opening the shop. RSS activists are also ready on the opposite side to block the CPM activists.

It was on Friday night at around 8pm that RSS activists broke into AKG cultural centre and damaged LED TV and computers. The same gang on Saturday arrived at CPM Cheruvanjeri branch Office and damaged the office. These incidents had led CPM to hartal.

There was also stone-throwing incident at CPM activist Nadukkandi Moosa’s  Poyiloor house. In Kadavathoor, bombs were hurled at Mulsim League activist Vayalil Moosa’s house.

Meanwhile, police during the day arrested 30 RSS men who allegedly reached Karshaka Sangam District leader O K Vasudev’s house with lethal weapons and threatened to kill him.
