State govt to take over NH expansion

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Abraham Kunju has said that the State government will take over the expansion work of National Highways as National Highway Authority has given up the project. Toll collection will also be made the responsibility of the government.

A high-level committee will be held on Wednesday here under the chairmanship of the chief minister to discuss the matter. He said according to the availability of the land the road will expanded and the government was not willing for a confrontation with the local residents over land or toll collection.

The road will be expanded to 45-metre width where there is availability of land and to 30 metre width where there is lesser land. There are also plans for four-lane roads,” he added.
