NEW DELHI: The State government has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court, pointing out that the local-self-governing bodies have been violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. “Permission is being given for illegal construction along coastal areas, bypassing the government order,” it said.
The government pointed out the above fact in the counter-affidavit filed against the affidavit submitted by resort owners against the demolition of Kapico Resort that was constructed allegedly by encroaching the Vempanattu lake shores.
The government said, despite continuous instructions, the local self-governing bodies had been violating the rules.
In the affidavit, the government has also asked for the court’s permission to demolish the resort built “illegally” at Nediyamthuruthu Island and Vettilathuruthu. The demand was made to demolish the resorts as they lie on ecologically fragile region.
