SABARIMALA: Thousands of devotees got darshan of makaravilakku at Ponnambalamedu here at around 6:40 in the evening on Friday. The Thiruvabharanam (sacred ornaments for deity) procession that started from Panthalam reached the Sannidhanam by evening.
Following this, the deity was decked up in Thiruvabharanam and the sanctum sanctorum’s door was opened for ‘deeparadhana’. Within seconds, Makaravilakku also became visible. It became prominent three times when the devotees invoked Lord Ayyappa with chanting Ayyappa hymns. After that devotees, moved towards the temple for Ayyappa ‘darshan’.
Earlier, the Thiruvabharanam procession led by Devaswom Board manager was received by Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar, Kodikunnil Suresh M P , Devaswom president Prayar Gopalakrishnan, members Ajay Tharayil, P K Kumaran, Devaswom Commissioner Ramaraja Prema Prasad, Special Commissioner K Babu, and ADGP K Padmakumar. They then viewed Makaravilakku. Film actor Jayaram was also among the devotees who thronged the place to get a glimpse of Makravilakku.
The darshan of Makaravilakku marked the final phase of Sabarimala pilgrimage.
