Kochi : Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad on Sunday expressed his displeasure over the incident of ADGP B Sandhya and Trial court judge in Somya murder case K Ravendhra Babu meeting justice Markandey Katju, saying the meeting happened without the government's knowledge.
"It was not correct on the ADGP's part to take the decision on her own as Soumya murder is a very crucial case. As the government has appointed the attorney general to argue the case, there is no need to approach a retired judge. It is not on the basis of 'who went to see whom,' that judges handle cases. On the contrary, cases are handled on the basis of merit and the way the attorney general argues the case. All these matters will not affect the case. However, the meeting has generated a controversy and it could have been avoided," Sudhakara Prasad said.
ADGP B Sandhya had met former Supreme Court Judge Justice Markandey Katju at the latter's residence in Noida the other day. Fast Track Court Judge K Ravindra Babu, who delivered the judgement in the case and Suresan, who was the public prosecutor in the case, accompanied the ADGP. According to sources, the meeting was arranged with an intention of seeking legal advice in Soumya murder case.
The meeting had generated controversy as a judge of the trial court along with the investigating officer of the case met justice Katju. Justice Katju has become a part of the case with the Supreme Court asking him to appear in connection with the case. In his FB post, Katju had said that the Supreme Court action of quashing the death sentence of Soumya murder cases accused Govindachamy, was wrong. The SC considered this as a petition and asked Katju to appear in the court for a debate.
