KANNUR: In the wake of ongoing CITU-led strike, the management of Kannur Medical College is getting ready to shift the college from Ancharakandi to Malappuram. This was declared by the management in its affidavit submitted in the high court.
The management informed the court it had started the spade work to shift the college to Malappuram. This might take a year’s time. This is one of the medical colleges that didn’t enter into any agreement with the government over self-financing college fee issue.
Kannur Medical College is functioning under Prestige Education Trust, chaired by M Abdul Jabbar. The medical college was started in 2006. The college has been conducting admission procedures as per its own bylaw. The management has also asked the court for the Central government forces’ protection for the colleges till it will be shifted to Malappuram.
Currently, there are about 6000 students studying various courses. About 100 employees of the college had started strike on the 13th of last September over minimum wages, provident fund and bonus.
The management were ready for just paying Rs 2000 as bonus, after which the college premises witnessed tense situation. Four vehicles parked in front of the college were also damaged on Friday.
