Thursday, September 01, 2011: South-west monsoon has been active over Kerala and heavy rain disrupted traffic and damaged many houses in different parts of the State on Thursday.
Several low-lying areas in the capital city and other parts of the state were flooded in the incessant rain. Heavy rainfall is continuing in many parts of the State.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of rough seas and winds with speed of 55 km in the coastal areas of the State.
The heavy rain lashing Kerala is most likely to continue for two more days in State according to the Meteorological department.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall reports in cm are – Quilandy (Kozhikode district) 14, Vadakara (Kozhikode district) & Vythiri (Wayanad district) 12 each, Kozhikode & Ottappalam (Palakkad district) 11 each and Vellanikkara (Thrissur district), Mannarkkad (Palakkad district), Thalasserry (Kannur district) & Thrissur 10 each. Another 60 stations reported rainfall of 1 cm to 9 cm.
