One dies of fever in Palakkad

Thursday, September 22, 2011: A 32 year old man has died of fever near Ottappalam in Palakkad district on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Abdu hailing from Vaniyamkulam, sources said.
Spread of viral fever reported from many parts of Kerala is causing concern as various types of viral infections, including leptospirosis, have claimed at least 20 lives in the last one week.
The Health Department has stepped up preventive and curative measures to contain the spread of spread of fever, mostly reported from the northern districts.

Health Minister Adoor Prakash has sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each for all the 14 districts as emergency fund to take up preventive measures. The minister also sought report from District Medical Officers (DMOs) on the situation in each district, an official release said.
State Epidemiologist Dr Sukumaran has been entrusted with the job of co-ordinating and monitoring the special healthcare activities in various districts. All government hospitals, including the primary health centres, have been asked to replenish their stock of medicines including anti-biotics to tackle the situation.
Facilities for dialysis has been strengthened in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Most of the fever cases were reported from northern districts of Kasargode, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad.
Cases of dengue, hepatitis and gastro-enteritis have also been reported from Kottayam and Ernakulam districts.
