Preventive steps against Hepatitis begin

KOCHI: District panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilly has inaugurated the measures to check the spread of Hepatitis A in the district.

Inaugurating the programme on Tuesday, he said he had asked the state government to provide Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of those who have died of the disease.Under the present circumstances, the functioning of wayside eateries will have to be stopped.

The toddy from Palakkad will not be brought to the district for the time being.Of the 530 suspected cases, 115 cases have been confirmed so far.People should take boiled water and hot food only, DMO Dr R Sudhakaran said.Personal hygiene is of utmost importance to prevent the spread of the diseases.Water bodies should not be allowed to be contaminated.
