Pinarayi bats for VS over controversial remarks

Monday, March 12, 2012: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today came out in support of Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan in connection with the controversial remarks against former CPM leader Sindhu Joy.
Addressing the presspersons here on Monday, Pinarayi added that the Congress had misinterpreted Achuthanandan’s remarks and there is no need to tender an apology.
Achuthanandan landed in controversy with politicians from across the spectrum condemning his remarks against a former CPM leader Sindhu Joy, whom he equated to that of a “woman of loose character”.
Mahila congress state president Bindhu Krishna and Lathika subhash came down heavily against VS’s remark on sindhu Joy. Bindhu Krishna said that Achuthanandan should withdraw the remark and apologise.
CPI-M Rajya Sabha member TN Seema said that no political leader should use such words against women. “It was not proper for VS to make a statement like this,” said Seema who also heads the party’s women’s organisation.
Speaking to reporters, the veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader asked where was Sindhu Joy now.
“She was the candidate (of CPI-M) against Prof KV Thomas in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Then she campaigned for the Congress in the 2011 assembly polls. Today the situation is that she has been thrown out by the Congress after using her, just like a woman who has a loose character is dumped after a few years,” said VS.
