Walkout over police action on Left youth organizations

Thursday, March 22, 2012: CPI-M led LDF opposition members on Thursday staged a walkout in the Kerala assembly protesting against the police action on the protest march staged by the Left youth organizations against the government move to raise the retirement age to 56 years.
Moving the adjournment motion over the issue, VS Sunil Kumar opined that the police had used brutal force to suppress the peaceful demonstrations staged by the Left youth organizations. As many as 300 activists were injured in the police lathicharge, he added.
Replying to the adjournment motion, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy informed the Assembly that the Left activists had destroyed public property worth Rs 17 lakhs during their demonstrations.
Soon after Chief Minister’s reply Speaker G Karthikeyan denied permission to entertain the Opposition’s adjournment motion over which they staged a walkout.
