CM rules out any attempt to hack personal e-mails

 Saturday, January 21, 2012: Refuting the charges over the recent e-mail scandal, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today opined that the state government had not made any attempt to hack the personal mails of anybody or collect their pass words or log in details.
Speaking to the reporters here on Saturday, Chandy added that if anyone could prove that the government had hacked personal mails then he was ready to tender apology and pay the penalty for it.
Meanwhile CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today came out in support of Madhyamam weekly in connection with the media report on alleged surveillance of email ids belonging to minority community in the State.
Pinarayi added that the state government must not register a case against the Madhyamam weekly. The government move to register case should be seen as “vicious attack” on press freedom, he added.
Madhyamam, had reported that email ids of leaders, activists, professionals, students and journalists from the minority community in Kerala were subjected to surveillance by the Special Branch of Kerala Police.
The report alleged that it was an attempt at religious profiling as out of the 268 e-mail accounts, 258 belonged to Muslims. It is said that none among them had any previous criminal backgrounds and so there was no clarity as to why they were put under surveillance.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had ordered a probe into the hacking incident after leading Muslim organisations in Kerala demanded the CM’s explanation in this issue.
