ALAPPUZHA: BJP Kerala sector’s performance in the Lok Sabha election has drawn criticism from the central leadership. The party’s national secretary Y. Sathyakumar has shared his discontent with the party wing’s poor showing despite having favorable circumstances. Contradicting state president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai’s statement that the central leadership is content with the result, Sathyakumar said that the party was hopeful of winning three seats in Kerala.
There is criticism within the party for the state president’s contest for candidature, which may have negatively affected the election. The party couldn’t even win at Vattiyoorkavu, a RSS-BJP stronghold. Kummanam lost the election by over 1 lakh votes. Even after securing close to 3 lakh votes in Pathanamthitta, Surendran finished at third position. Suresh Gopi’s presence at Thrissur didn’t prove to be significant enough.
BJP leader M.T. Ramesh commented that party president is not decided on the basis of elections. He further added that there was an organized campaign against Modi in the state and the party will introspect for the reasons of defeat.
