THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coastal intelligence wings have been formed in eighteen coastal police stations as part of security beefing up in the coastal areas of the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the assembly.
There is boat patrolling with the cooperation of fisheries department and marine enforcement in coastal sectors. Coast guard vigilance panels have been formed including the residents of coastal areas in order to strengthen coastal security. After giving training to 200 persons, they will be appointed in police stations of coastal areas, he said.
The coastal areas of the state were put on high alert after an intelligence report said 15 Islamic State terrorists had set off from Sri Lanka for the Lakshadweep islands on boats.
Soon after the alert given, state police chief Lokanath Behera held talks with high officials of various security agencies.
