ADGP Yasin was in Palakkad when Sampath died

Palakkad: Documents states that ADGP Muhammad Yasin was in Palakkad on the night of Sampath's death. Sampath, the prime accused in the Puthoor Sheila murder case, died under police custody. The case relates to the brutal torture of Sampath on the River side cottage, Malampuzha on March 29, 2010 between 5.30 pm and 11 pm. Statements by the witnesses to the CBI stated that Yasin, who reached there, had beaten Sampath, Kanakaraj and Manikandan with IPS baton (officers cane).

But the press release released by Yasin on July 20 stated that there are scientific evidences to prove that he was out of Kerala during that time. BSNL documents points out that his claims were false. There are also documents proving that from 8.30 onwards on the same day, he stayed at Chandranagar ITI Limited guesthouse in Palakkad town.

As per the witness statements, Yasin reached the cottage at 6.40 pm. Manikandan, who was convicted by the court in Sheila murder case, said that after hours of torture from 5.30 pm, police suddenly stopped beating and a man wearing square sun glasses came and beat the three. After five minutes he returned. Manikandan said he later identified the person as Yasin after seeing his photo.

As per Manikandan's statement, the time was approximately 6.40 and BSNL documents show that Yasin was just 7 km away from the cottage.

It is true that Yasin went to Coimbatore on March 29 but he returned by 3.15 pm. When a call came at 6.14 pm, he reached near Navakkara and only 20 minutes drive was needed to reach the cottage from there.

When a message came to his mobile at 6.41 pm, he was near Puthussery range and from there only 7 km to the cottage. By 6.54 pm, he reached ITI guesthouse. The documents of ITI guest show that he checked in at the hotel at 8.30 pm which was modified as earlier 4 pm was entered there.
