Railways to install cameras in T’puram, Ernakulam

Saturday, August 26, 2011: Stepping up its surveillance, Southern Railways will be installing 50-60 high definition cameras with sophisticated technology at Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram stations and would man all the 110 unmanned crossings in Kerala by December next year, said a top official on Saturday.

Tendering process with regard to the cameras was being finalized, Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Manager, Rajiv Dutt Sharma told reporters here.
To prevent loss of life in railway crossings, railways would also man all the 110 unmanned level crossings in the state by December next year, he said. Kerala would be the first state to achieve this distinction, Sharma said.
Unmanned level crossings are the serious concern for the railways. Out of the 407 level crossings in the division, 108 are unmanned. There are 2 unmanned crossings in Palakkad division.
